Our Team
Peter Deans
Peter Deans is the Principal and Founder of Notwithoutrisk Consulting. Notwithoutrisk Consulting is a specialist consulting firm servicing offers a unique range of strategy and risk advisory services aimed at banks and financial institutions, private companies, large corporations, government clients, and start-ups.
Peter has over 32 years of experience in banking and finance and retired from banking and finance in May 2019. Peter was most recently Group Chief Risk Officer at Bank of Queensland, where he was also a member of the Executive Committee for seven years. Peter has extensive experience in strategic and business planning, design and implementation of risk management frameworks, risk function organizational design, risk identification, measurement and reporting, and strategic risk / emerging risk assessment.
Peter also has well-developed, high-level expertise and experience dealing with, and building relationships with, regulators and policymakers. Peter was awarded Australian Banking & Finance magazine’s Chief Risk Officer of the Year award in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. Peter also currently holds a number of Non-Executive Director and Advisory Board roles.
He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, FINSIA, the Risk Management Association (RMA) and the Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA).
Peter also participated in Harvard Business School’s inaugural course ‘Risk Management for Corporate Leaders’ in 2010. Peter is the Creator & Founder of the 52 Risks® Management Framework.
Dugald King
Dugald King is an experienced banking and financial services executive and has over 20 years of banking, restructuring, corporate finance and turnaround experience across a variety of different industry segments. He has been working as a Consultant with Notwithoutrisk Consulting since 2020.
Dugald previously held several senior roles at Bank of Queensland (BOQ) across retail banking, commercial banking and risk management. Those roles included overseeing national retail credit assessment operations as Head Of Retail Credit Risk Assessment, Head of Portfolio Assurance & Governance -Business Banking as well as holding a senior leadership role in the Bank’s Asset Management team during its Post GFC balance sheet restructure.
Dugald coordinated the $150M sale by BOQ of a portfolio of distressed real estate backed debt to Goldman Sachs in 2012. He also completed due diligence on multiple distressed loan books and worked on key mergers & acquisitions undertaken by BOQ including the acquisition of Virgin Money Australia (2013) and the Investec medical finance business (2014).
Prior to BOQ, Dugald worked for Ernst & Young in their corporate finance, restructuring and external audit teams assisting both domestic and Pacific Island-based clients.
Dugald is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws from QUT as well as an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School.
